At Anchor, we have dedicated ourselves and our vast resources to raising the level of safety and professionalism for our drivers. We fulfill this promise on an ongoing basis through our comprehensive driver-training program. This program is mandatory for all newly hired drivers as well as all existing drivers, who must rotate through the program core on a quarterly basis. The program is conducted through classroom vocational training and hands-on field training, both at the corporate and terminal levels. Lectures, videos, MS PowerPoint presentations, written tests, equipment displays and cutaways are utilized. A brief overview of the program is as follows:

- HAZMAT-232 security training
- HAZMAT-172 certification and DOT compliance
- Basic Driver Orientation, which consists of:
- Safe driving procedures
- Vehicle inspection pre/post trip procedures
- Liquid tanker operations
- Rollover prevention
- Seeing hazards
- Tire blowouts
- Backing procedures
- Speed and space management
- The Anchor Driver Manual
- Driver Fatigue Awareness
- Drug and Alcohol Awareness
- Targeted Training Blocks, which consists of:
- City and winter driving techniques
- Proper cornering techniques
- Clutching and braking techniques
- Construction zone driving
- Specific Product Training, such as:
- All distillate product delivery procedures, both metered and gravity
- Asphalt and elevated temperature product delivery procedures
- Cement and dry bulk delivery procedures
- Smith System of Defensive Driving Procedures
By concentrating on safety issues top to bottom, we will continue to grow as the premier bulk carrier in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic.
